Cavaleiro-fidalgo da Casa d'el Rei. Escrivão das Casas da Índia e Mina. Teve pelo menos um filho, a saber, Fernão Gomes da Gama, que sucedeu. A única referência a Estêvão da Gama, datada de 1590, surge na carta régia de mercê do ofício de escrivão das Casas da Índia e Mina a Fernão Gomes da Gama, onde se traslada um alvará régio no qual o Rei promete a Estêvão da Gama que o ofício passaria para o seu filho depois da sua morte e contando que tivesse 25 anos.
