Casado com Violante Gil. Teve pelo menos dois filhos, a saber, Lopo da Fonseca e Inês Figueira. Escudeiro e criado de Martim Afonso de Miranda. Morador no Gradil, termo de Cabrela. A primeira referência a João Afonso Camareiro data de 1448 e surge no “Inventário geral de papéis…” na descrição da carta de mercê feita pelo Rei da lutuosa do seu sogro (fl. 69v). A última referência, datada de 1479, surge no contexto da troca de umas propriedades na Fonte da Talha.
